I read a good article in the PetFoodology section of Tufts Cumming’s School of Veterinary Medicine. It goes over common mistakes pet owners make when cooking dog food at home. It covers how substitutions (type or quantity of ingredients) change the balance of the recipe, what happens when you Google pet food recipes, and how diets for puppies and nursing dogs are not the same as for healthy adult dogs. I think it does a great job at cover some of the major pitfalls people can fall into when starting out. It’s a short read.
There is one area that I disagree with in the article… cost. In my experience home cooking dog food is similar in cost to the premium kibble I purchased for my dog. I don’t find home cooking any more expensive.
